Chile
Décima Región
Glaciers and Puna
The first tour I will offer in this area is of Chiloé island and then a series of hikes spurring from the Panamerican highway. One such place will be the Parque Nacional Hornopirén. I will add details as I find time. The Hike takes us from the town of Hornopirén at sea level up 2000 meters to a lake at the base of the volcano with the same name as the town. The hike starts in agricultural land with cows, goats and such. As we climb the painfully steep grades we enter Valdivian rainforest, cloud, drizzle and redwoods. After about sic hours we will be greeted by a placid alpine lake, breathtaking peaks and a lovely campsite. The following day, we can hike up to see the Volcano rim. If we prepare ourselves for a technical climb we can reach the peak of the volcano and walk the glaciers.
